Wedding Information

So you're engaged . . . Congratulations . . . You have decided to marry and commit yourselves to a lifetime of mutual love, learning and discovery. There is more to getting married than choosing a caterer and finding the perfect wedding dress. Marriage is one of the most life-changing and serious commitments you will ever make.  We at St. Cecilia, commit ourselves to helping engaged couples enter into a marriage that gives promise of being grace-filled, happy and successful.

General Information:
We ask that you call the Church at least six months before your wedding. This will improve your chance of getting the date you request and you will have the time to take care of all the necessary preparations. Pre-Cana, Engaged Encounter, or Evenings for the Engaged are required. Most couples appreciate these programs which can enrich your marriage. We will provide you current schedules and information on these events.

Weekend Masses begin at 4 pm Saturday; therefore, if you are planning a Saturday afternoon wedding, we suggest 1 pm or earlier, and for Saturday evening, 6 pm or later. This will avoid parking problems between your guests and our parishioners; and allow time for photographs before confessions at 3 pm. Please ask your guests not to throw rice or bird seed as it creates a safety hazard. Many brides have flower arrangements that decorate the altar area. Please consider leaving the arrangements for the Saturday afternoon and Sunday Masses as an appropriate offering to the Lord.

Correct placement of flower arrangements on the altar is important. It is deemed inappropriate to place flower arrangements on or in front of the altar, since the priest and the couple stand before the altar for the exchange of wedding vows. St. Cecilia can provide flower stands if your florist is unable to provide them. When placing bows and other decorations in the aisles, florists are asked to avoid materials that may leave a mark−for example, tape or an unpadded clamp.

During the summer months, the limitations of our air conditioning system allow us to cool the church only during the wedding ceremony. As a result, we are limiting weddings to one per day from May through September. Please do not bring food or beverages into the Church.

Music
St. Cecilia's Music Director and organist is Mr. Robert Kellison, who is also the executive director of the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra. He will help you choose music appropriate for the sacred character of your wedding Mass or service following the liturgical guidelines of the Church. Mr. Kellison sings at weddings, but you may choose your own soloist. Mr. Kellison is prepared to work with him or her.

If you prefer to use another musician (guitarist, harpist, etc.), this is our policy: The guest musician should have the approval of Mr. Kellison, who will also approve the musical selections. Mr. Kellison can be reached at (513) 984-3938.

Fees

The fee for the wedding is $950 non-parishioners and $500 active parishioners (in good standing for 2 yrs. prior) and their families. The fee includes: The rental of the Church, Mr. Kellison's fee, clean-up, utility costs and other incidentals. Marriage is a Holy Sacrament of the Church and the fee is intended to recover costs the Church incurs.  A $300 deposit is required within 30 days of contact in order to secure your wedding date.

Photography

The photographer and/or videographer will want to be discreet so as not to distract the priest, the wedding party and guests from the solemnity and beauty of the ceremony. Pictures and video may be taken inside the church and in the Church gardens. For Saturday afternoon weddings, we ask the all photography end by 3:00 pm; and for a Saturday evening wedding not to start before 5:15 pm

Other Questions
If you have a Unity Candle ceremony, you may use our candles or purchase your own. If there are two weddings scheduled for Saturday, we try to arrange both rehearsals on Friday, or one on Friday and the other on Thursday. A Friday evening wedding may necessitate Thursday evening rehearsals. If there are two weddings on the same weekend, you may want to contact the other party regarding sharing the cost of floral arrangements. We can assist you in making contact with the other party.

The length of our aisle is 90 feet. The aisle cloth must be secured only with masking tape - other tapes leave a sticky residue on the floor. We require a copy of your Baptismal Certificate. If you do not have one, contact the parish where you were baptized and request that one be forwarded to the Parish Secretary at St. Cecilia by mail or fax. You will also need an Ohio Marriage License. You may call (513) 946-3589 for information on Hamilton County's license requirements.
